If you're planning ahead for serious train travel on your next European trip, now's the time to decide if a pass works for your plans: Eurail Group, which operates the Eurail and Interrail pass programs is offering them at 15% discount through Dec. 31.
And while it's late for most travelers for this year, the passes bought now can be used up to 11 months later. Or, as the company suggests, you could buy a 5-country pass now to visit Christmas markets all over Europe.
Passes, with the 15% savings figured in, run from as low as €37 for a single-country pass on up to a Global Pass covering choices from a list of 30 countries, starting at €175. There are also youth discounts, and a 10% discount for over-60s.
Whether a pass will make economic sense for your trip will vary. There's excellent help on figuring that out at Mark Smith's site, The Man in Seat 61.
