Road Trip: 14K of good weather

An Alaska researcher has come up with one of the greatest road-trip ideas ever, a year-long trip of 13,909 miles that uses weather data to ensure temperatures of about 70 every day.

Along the way, the route passes through 26 states and six Canadian provinces. The route starts in San Diego on January 1 and ends a year later in Florida. It’s the work of Brian Brettschneider, who published the maps on his website Tuesday. It’s an updated version of a U.S.-only trip he posted in 2015.

Brettschneider used masses of historical weather data from 1991 to 2020 to chart his routes. He told interviewers that he doesn’t know anyone who’s tried all of his older or newer routes, since few people have the time for a year-long trip, but he has heard from people who have used portions.
