Hanoi, Vietnam

Founded over 1000 years ago, Vietnam’s capital city, Hanoi, is rich in history with the streets of its rambling Old Quarter dating back to the 14th century. But they didn’t have traffic like this in those days.

It’s a seething mass of mobile humanity that makes crossing the road on foot appear suicidal, but miraculously they always manage to weave around you.

Carrying big things on small vehicles is another favourite pastime. Not sure this would be allowed in most Western cities. But despite these idiosyncrasies I do love Hanoi. I think it has preserved its past far better than Ho Chi Minh City.

Hanoi is one of my favorite cities.  I think I stayed on the same street, at the Camellia Hotel, for a couple of weeks.

Yep, great city, and the Camellia’s still there.

I agree that Hanoi has done a far better job of preserving its best than Ho Chi Minh City. Great place to visit.
