Mar. 16, 2019: Dragons of Kew Gardens

These two somewhat playful monsters are only two of six that were scattered around the Royal Botanial Gardens at Kew last year, celebrating another dragon event: the restoration of 80 golden dragons on the facade of the historic pagoda at nearby Kew Palace.

Five of the six were designed by schoolchildren in a prize contest, the other by a local artist.

The golden dragons for the pagoda were 3-D printed to replace originals that were removed within 20 years of their 1762 installation; they were spectacular, but made of cheap pine and didn’t weather well. The new ones should do better!
