The Gore Range, Colorado

Colorado is filled with beautiful and impressive mountain ranges, many with dramatic ridges and spires.  One of these is the Gore Range (elevation approximately 12,000 -13,000 ft), situated in the state’s north central Rocky Mountains.  The range is approximately 60 miles (100 km) long, runs northwest-to-southeast, and has about 102 summits.

The range was named for Sir St George Gore, an Irish hunter who visited the area in the 1850’s, killing thousands of animals for the sport of it all.  Wonder when the name will be changed….
