‘Sea Bubble’ water taxi returns to Paris

The low-pollution, high-speed catamaran Sea Bubble taxi that had a brief tryout in Paris two years ago, and this time it may be ready for regular commercial operation.

The craft, whose appearance justifies its name, travels at about 30km/h and emits no CO2 because it’s all-electric, a factor that gives it an edge with green-minded Paris officials. It’s the brainchild of French yachtsman Alain Thebault, and has also been ‘previewed’ in a number of cities, including Geneva, Miami and St Tropez.

With Paris looking for green transport ahead of the 2024 Olympics, it appears the Sea Bubble may be cleared for regular service by spring. There’s also a contract in the works to use the Sea Bubble for luxury city tours.
