Re: Qantas eyes more UK-Oz nonstops
After sitting on an airplane seat for 12 hours it's an absolute pleasure to ride an exercise bike in Kuala Lumpur Airport - before my onward journey to Oz. Just for 20 mins so the lower part of my body regains the will to live. I thought a few minutes jogging would help me - until I realised I had presented myself as a moving target to the Airport Police. The thought of a 17 hour direct flight in cattle class is awful. Maybe travelling in business class - with room for my arteries to...

On the flights I have made from the UK to Sydney Australia I was pleased to have a break in Kuala Lumpur or Bahrain. Stretch the legs while my blood was still circulating - then have a jog on the machines before retiring back to reading books.

Re: Gumbo's Pic of the Day, Nov 29, 2013: Petronas Towers, Malaysia
Yes, I have enjoyed the Empire State Tower visit but it has to be said that the Petronas Towers are into another league. Petronas Towers are probably just as impressive now as the Empire State was when it was new. Really an amazing experience and even more amazing that one can see exactly that view from the hotel room across from the the towers.

Re: Flood of new agents to speed up Customs at JFK and Newark
You're both right of course. No one has the moral high ground on delays. When you transit an airport with several terminals you do need to enter the country first. But hub airports like Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Bahrain have all been so polite and helpful it makes you realise that there is a better way. I use Philadelphia airport now to enter the US. It rates alongside Orlando as a pleasant experience. Last year I went through passport control in Philly. When asked, I told the officer that...

Attention in the Terminal! Please claim your Boeing 747s.
It's not a story you hear very often, but apparently someone has abandoned their 747s at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA). Not just one, but three of them -- sitting there on the tarmac. Airport authorities have placed an ad in a local newspaper seeking the unknown owner of three Boeing 747-200Fs (2 passenger and 1 cargo planes). The planes could be sold or destroyed if they fail to be claimed within 14 days, and the revenue so generated could be used to recover fees...

Deepavali the ‘Festival of Lights’ in Malaysia
Deepavali or more commonly known as the ‘Festival of Lights’, is celebrated by the Hindu community and is a day for all races and religions. The festival signifies the triumph of good over evil, a battle we all strive to achieve in life, wouldn’t you agree? Perhaps this is what draws in the Western crowd to this luminous and joyous event. In commemoration of Lord Rama and his wife Sita’s return to Ayodhya after his 14-year exile, the religious event falls on the day before the new moon. Sita...

Update from The Telegraph (UK) "An air cargo firm has claimed ownership of three Boeing 747s left at Kuala Lumpur International Airport for more than a year . "Airport authorities placed an advert in newspapers earlier this week calling for the owner of the aircraft to come forward. "But Swift Air Cargo, a Malaysian firm, says it has been trying to retrieve the aircraft for months - but authorities dispute its paperwork."

Re: Airlines will soon be forced to pay for Damaged Luggage
My only experience with damage to a bag by an airline was in Asia and a very positive experience. On landing in Kota Kinabalu on an Air Asia flight I discovered my new bag damaged. The airline office readily accepted responsibility, sent the bag on a side trip all it's own to Kuala Lumpur where the repairs were made and the bag delivered a couple of days later to my hotel. They even gave me a brand new "loaner" until mine was returned. That's how loyal relationships are made. Silly airlines...
