I'm not sure if all of their reasons to why tourism is up in Manchester are right, but at least some of them are. I think the main reasons tourism's up is that people are discovering how nice a destination it is and how inexpensive the city can be compared to London. And they tell their friends. I met a war vet many years ago. He laughed as he told me about coping with stress. "When you stop in your car and the guy behind flashes his lights at you. Again and again. You get so stressed. When I was a young man I had the same problem. Lights flashing in my rear view mirror. But I was flying a Spitfire Aircraft.
