Re: Gifts to bring back from Portugal or Barcellona
I may not be much help, because we tend to send postcards to the grandchildren from each city, with notes about what we've seen and think they would be interested in, and to avoid filling the suitcase with physical items. But for those few things we do buy, we usually go to the market! One of our travel rituals, on the first day when we stock the apartment, is to look for a local preserve or jam that we don't see at home (skyberries in Stockholm, for instance). Once we've found one we really...

Re: Trainer for Day: Dolphinarium, Puerto Vallarta, Mexico
Great question -- and I should have put that in. The water was warm -- in the low to mid 80's ( Fahrenheit ). My wife is a woos, so she wore a skin (actually to prevent sun burn). You are not allowed to wear sun-screen as it contaminates the water for the dolphins!

Rob, with these fares from Oakland to Stockholm in mind, I once spent a summer working in Sweden but I don't recall seeing palm trees. Which part has them so I'll know where to go for my winter vacation?

Re: Fares to Europe for as Low as $301 Round Trip Total!
Prices for Oslo in June were not that much more than winter ones.I'll have to check if the Oakland -Stockholm is similar. If I were to travel to Stockholm in winter though,i 'd just get a return budget flight to somewhere warmer in Europe.

Re: Where in the World is TravelGumbo? (#42)
Well, another one bites the dust...Jonathan L identified it by e-mail as a view of Stockholm Cathedral in the background, and it is. You're looking up HelgaLekamensgrand from Stora Nygaten, and Jonathan recognized it from the Stampen jazz club in the foreground—and Mac's remark makes it clear he's got it, too! So, tomorrow more on the street and the area, and on Sunday...Puzzle 43.

Re: Cruisers: American Cars in Stockholm
My brother-in-law lived in Montreal, likely worse on cars than winter in Stockholm, and had a beloved classic Rover. Always a man with strict personal guidelines, at the first threat of snow into the garage and up on blocks it went. After 2 winters there myself a warm climate was the answer, no snow, no salt, no whining, his other hobby. Good thing we're anonymous here.

Re: I get to Boomerang to Spain ! Cheap !
Thanks for pointing this out! By the way, it is also possible to take a free stopover on the international end. For example, a couple of years ago, we flew from NYC to Copenhagen (the routing) but with a week stopover in Stockholm along the way. We've used that kind of routing a number of times. Adding to your point about Britain: Many of AA's European cities are actually served by their closely-tied partners, British Air and Iberia. With a little persistence, you can find flights that don't...

Re: I get to Boomerang to Spain ! Cheap !
So, PHeymont, when you stopped for the week in Stockholm which airline was it and what fees were you charged for the stopover? You mention Madrid. Presumably that was a different trip, so same questions on that one. Also, can these stopovers be scheduled on the AA website or must you speak to an AAdvantage customer service person and pay the ($25?) fee?

Re: Stockholm's Skansen Museum Park: Where Gumbo Was #27
I'd never heard of this museum, PHeymont, and find it all fascinating. Another reason to visit Stockholm! But I did guess the building was a cache (name used in Canada for structures like these people use to store meat in the winter without any access except a ladder). Not claiming victory as I had no idea where it was, but you want a building without windows, large doors (although you need a way in, be it from the bottom or side) or an ability to chew threw on ground level to protect your...
