The center of Avignon with the Rhône and l'Île Piot in the distance.     The purpose of my stop in Avignon was a pause in a pleasant small city, between arriving in France and the week I planned to spend in Uzes.

The Petit Palais, and its neighbor the Grand Palais, were built to house exhibits at the 1900 Universal Exhibition in Paris. Since then it has housed the city's Fine Arts Museum (that's city as opposed to national...).

This veteran Citroen truck, probably early 1950s, sits daily on a small triangle off the Champs Elysees, near the Grand Palais, selling organic fruit ices.

These well-behaved trees provide a shady refuge in summer heat in the Jardin du Palais Royal in Paris. Beyond the alley of trees, the gardens contain a well-manicured lawn surrounded by riotous flower beds.
