Re: Now an airline charge for NOT flying!
Sadly it seems that the only thing limiting some airlines from charging another fee is their imagination. However, I have faith that they will think out of the box and try to suck more from their passengers.

Re: Now an airline charge for NOT flying!
If you do call the airline to cancel your return ticket you get no refund. They will probably sell your seat for more than your two-way ticket cost. If you try to reschedule your return for another day they will charge full price with no discount for being polite and doing the right thing. So you just walk away and find another airline. Thanks for sharing this post. I had no idea there was an MTM statue in Minneapolis. MTM show remains one of my all-time favorites. Superb writing and character development, great acting, fine story telling. Wish more shows like this were still made.

I totally agree DrFumblefinger. When you see much of the material that passes for television these days, it makes me appreciate even more how good the Mary Tyler Moore show really is.

Re: Gumbo's Pic of the Day, September 10, 2015: Statue of Mary Tyler Moore, Minneapolis, Minneosta
The characters on MTM were generally functional people, with problems, and with a sense of purpose (even if some had purposes a bit off-kilter). Even Ted was not a total idiot. Think how many shows today rise to that standard...go on, I'm waiting...

Re: A Walk in Greenwich Village
As an even earlier 8th street walker (from the early 60s on) I also remember the wonderful 8th Street Bookshop, and numbers of artisan leather and jewelry shops...it was where you went for sandals...sad now, but nice to see Washington Square alive again, even if somewhat sanitized... The seemingly unstoppable expansion of NYU, like that of Columbia uptown, has changed the character of the area profoundly.

Paris' New Year celebration will go on, but quietly
Paris's traditional outdoor New Year's Eve celebration on the Champs-Elysees will happen this year, but will be a much more low-key affair than in the past. In the aftermath of last month's terror attacks, there had been thoughts it would be canceled. It will be a very different event, with no fireworks (for fear they might spark panic) and security measures to control crowds and keep too large a crowd from forming around the Arc de Triomphe. In place of the fireworks, there will be a...

Thanks for your comments, Prof Abe and Barry. Love the old cars too. We've definitely lost some of the artistry and creativity that used to define car manufacturing. Bonners Ferry is a S-M-A-L-L town, but it's a nice place to live and raise a family.
