Well done Jonathan. After your last clue I considered the Hudson River bunch as well as the Ash Can School but could find no reference to this place. It's quite a house.

Olana, in Hudson NY, was home to Frederic Church, one of the most famous painters of the Hudson River School.

The view from Frederic Church's home along the Hudson River seems unchanged since his time...until you look the other way.
