Re: United, Delta ready to retire 'Queen of the Skies'
I'm afraid to say that the changing modes of transport are a yard stick to measure your life-span. I remember with great affection travelling on a steam train. But fail to recall the hot ash that went into your eye through the open window. My favourite childhood vehicle .....

Re: Where in the World is Gumbo? 7.8 update
I think I'm going to stick with my original guess of a platypus in Australia. If the little critter is near it's natural habitat then I could guess eastern Australia, New South Wales?

Re: Gifts to bring back from Portugal or Barcellona
You might also consider not-handpainted tiles. The tiles you can see by the thousands on many buildings are available from building-supply or hardware vendors (drogaria) in many, many styles. Add some stick-on rubber bumpers to the back and you've got a practical--and cheap--Portuguese souvenir!

Re: JetBlue makes its fans blue: Less space, more fees
This is very disappointing news. I was hoping JetBlue would stick to its "customers first" mode of business operation, but obviously management has sold us out. That leaves only Southwest in the USA that has a different business model, and hopefully they'll stick to their principles and not succumb to these pressures.

Re: Gumbo's Pic of the Day, February 14, 2015: Maple Leaf Gardens, Toronto
Dark chocolate is good for you Garry I actually don't watch hockey much anymore, although from time to time I'll try to catch a game in person. As with many sports, watching it on the tube doesn't do it justice. You need to see a game in person to appreciate the action, the speed of the sport, the skill in passing and stick handling. Done properly, I think it's one of the world's greatest spectator sports.

Right, time to stick my neck out (again...). I'm going for the picture being part of the world's biggest miniature railroad layout located in Nothlandz, Flemington, New Jersey. I have seen write ups for a large German layout but I think it is nowhere near as big or as complete as this! There PH! Shoot me down my friend!!

Re: Italy joins anti-food-waste movement
Garry, it looks like the wonky veggies are fresh but misshapen. A good marketing idea to sell them separately. I think the idea behind the law is to prevent food waste. There are many tons of food discarded by restaurants and stores every day, as the article lays out. If this food could be channeled to food banks and such a day or two earlier, it would cut down a lot of waste. That is a noble effort, if it works. I like Italy's law of incentives better than France's. The carrot is more...

Re: A Visit to Ireland: Part 6) Slea Head. A Tour of the Dingle Peninsula
The landscapes of the Dingle Peninsula are truly beautiful and memorable. What will especially stick with me are the many rocks and stones and how they were used -- fences, beehive huts, even a grand old church (Gallarus Oratory). I become more and more intrigued by Malta ever day, IslandMan. It is quickly moving up my travel list!

Re: "New American" May Get Old Look: Employees to pick design
The old one is not my all-time favorite, but the new one doesn't "say" American or airline to me...it could be anything...and good logos shouldn't be "anything." Some identity-development company got a lot of money for those designs, but... Even the new eagle (see below) on the fuselage takes time to see as an eagle. For my money (and it isn't)...I'd say stick with the old, or back to the drawing board.
