Is this a location that stays frozen for most of the year ? It's unusual to see winter holding its grip until May.

HI Garry, I am not really sure. However we were pretty high up (over 8000 feet) so I think it probably does most of the year. I will let you know if we go back sometime this summer

Most of these high altitude lakes remain frozen most of the year. While it's further north, I am very familiar with Lake Louise in the Alberta Rockies. While at only 5200 ft above sea level, it receives a heavy snow fall and the ice remains on the lake until well into June, returning in the early fall. Hiking in the area is really limited to June, July and early September (unless you hike slogging through snow and slush)

That’s especially true for high-volume areas like Heathrow…I’d far rather use my waiting time there to be cleared than have to spend extra time waiting AFTER my flight at JFK!

New security changes to make travel harder and easier

Paul Heymont ·
At the same time that the U.S. is imposing new restrictions on the visa waiver program, it's also taking steps to provide more overseas pre-clearance to speed up arrival in the U.S. The visa waiver program—which allows residents of 38 cooperating countries, many in Europe, to visit the U.S. without having to go through time-consuming applications—is getting limts that require visas for anyone who has visited Iran, Iraq, Syria or Sudan within the past 5 years. Exceptions may be...

DrFumblefinger ·
Most every Canadian city has this pre-clearance, which really is formal immigration and customs inspection. Once through, you're in the USA, even though still in Canada. The lines move quickly and it certainly beats the zoo you find on arrival at immigration and customs at major US airports.

Is driving from Canada into the US a problem for Brits ? Last time I was held up for some time having to go into the office and complete forms. I was in the US 48 hours earlier but they had do it all again.

Don't know if it's a problem for Brits, Garry. But it is not a problems for Canadians and Americans, some of whom cross the border every day. Perhaps it was your dry sense of British humor?!?......which I like, but which a border guard might not.

Though I have a particular interest in photography, especially women photographers & their work, I'd never heard of Alice Austen. My eyes tell me men & women often have differing sensibilities that show in the work, not better, just different, & since historically there have been fewer women one must sometimes look harder to find them. So big thanks for this one, Jonathan. https://aliceausten.org/collection/
