Arizona is a huge state, EyeWonder. Where exactly were you going to be home-based during your Christmas vacation? It would help to know so that we could better advise you.

Re: Christmas in Arizona--what to do?
Anywhere around the Phoenix area would be good. Northern Arizona (Grand Canyon) gets winter. Scottsdale is a popular destination with great resorts and there are many budget hotels in the area. I would use Fashion Square Mall as your search area.

Re: Christmas in Arizona--what to do?
Thanks everyone. I have to ask you more questions! My friends have come up with two more suggestions. One is Sedona, and the other is the Navajo reservation that Tony Hillerman wrote all his books about and that has some big canyons. Is that area too far north for warm weather?

Navajo country is too far north and too high up for a warm winter break. But if you bring a warm jacket, it will be magical that time of year. Sedona will be nice, but with cooler days...

Re: Bye Bye Sky-High Rental Car Fees
Thanks, that was a good article. I got some ideas from it! I always get confused about whether I need to take insurance from the rental and it's always sky-high. I have some credit cards that say they cover it, but I hadn't realized that a lot of time my own car insurance would cover me with the rental. Boy, have we wasted a bunch! The other idea I liked there was taking pictures of the car before you leave their office so you can show them if they try to say you scratched up the car. Feels...

Re: Hiking Sani Pass, Lesotho, on a Budget
That sure looks like an amazing (and very difficult) hike, Travel with Lamb! I wished I'd been using trekking poles starting with my teens. They take tremendous strain off your knees, especially when carrying a heavy load like you were. My knees sadly show the effect of decades of hiking and backpacking. Given how far this is from home and such, I know I'll never do this hike, but you've taken me there so I thank you for that!

Re: Delta likes its 'basic economy,' will expand it
I like choice, so this is overall good news for consumers. On a somewhat unrelated topic, we've covered Canadian jet manufacturer Bombardier on our pages. It seems the company is very near agreement with Delta to sell it 125 of its new C series jets. It would be a big boost to Bombardier and might allow Delta extra basic economy seats and new routes on which to sell them. More on that story at this link .

I'm excited to fly in a C-Series and will go out of my way to buy a ticket when they start appearing! I also like the trend of one way tickets being less because that opens up lot's a route opportunities

NewLeaf is grounded, at least temporarily, as the Canadian is reviewing it's license. Will issue refunds for tickets already sold. Read more at this link: http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...a-reaction-1.3409694

Since the Canadian Transportation Agency has been looking into this issue of whether Indirect Service Providers should be required to hold a license, I'm surprised NewLeaf Travel didn't hold off before on selling tickets until this issue was settled https://www.otc-cta.gc.ca/eng/...ement-hold-a-licence

Re: Ultra budget, NewLeaf Travel, offering bargain Canadian airfares
I can remember this story so many times from the past 50 years - here in the UK. A new air service provider comes along with hopes of knocking the stuffing out of the "Big Boys". Then, always at the last minute - the most costly time - somebody throws a spanner in the works. Hoping to break the back - or bank - of the new kid on the block.. Dirty tricks again. And it wont be the last. And you never find out who started the fight. http://www.independent.co.uk/n...s-dirty-1478010.html

Re: Worlds Cheapest Phone?
Gotcha beat, mate! TracFone in the U.S. has a new Samsung for $9.95 and a reconditioned LG for free. They're here TracFone is owned by a Mexican company owned by Carlos Slim, one of the richest men in the world, so I guess he doesn't use these phones!

Re: Worlds Cheapest Phone?
Nope - you're still spending $9.95. Is that plus Tax ? 2 phones is just being greedy ! $8 still gets you a NEW disposable phone that works across Europe !

Re: Worlds Cheapest Phone?
Well, okay, it's not new...but it's free. You don't have to buy the other to get it...you just buy airtime and they'll ship the free phone with it.

GarryRF-That's great to hear. Can you tell us what the rates are If you go to other countries in Europe with those pre paid phones? Seems to me it would be worth buying for a traveler just as a emergency phone.

Re: Airbnb: 1 Night Free for New Users, Andorra new top choice
"one night of your stay of at least two nights is on us (value up to $300)." So just 2 nights, apparently not "over 2 nights". It doesn't say apartments don't qualify so, presumably, they do.

Re: Airbnb: 1 Night Free for New Users, Andorra new top choice
"At least two nights" is 2 nights. Otherwise it would be "more than 2 nights". I think it's exactly what they want, stay for "at least 2" (or more), pay for one (or more). Am I missing something? Anyone? It's an effort to encourage people to try the site and they've made it very attractive to do it. No dummies, those Airbnb folks.

Re: Airbnb: 1 Night Free for New Users, Andorra new top choice
Given the way the system works, I don't believe it concerns the hosts at all who will be paid for all nights. The promotion is, I have to believe, at the expense of the company and not the individuals with listings. Since there's a promotion code, it should all take place at the website level when booking.

Re: Airbnb: 1 Night Free for New Users, Andorra new top choice
I'm lost folks. Is the confusion resulting from the brief comment with the news clip? If so, I apologize, although it seems to me to be a pretty good replication of this quote from the original document, which they copied from an Airbnb press release, by the way. " First-time Airbnb guests who book a trip between January 13-17 for travel by March 31 , for stays of at least two days, will receive a one night discount (up to $300 ) on their trip." I don't see why "over one night" is clearer...

Why I Choose Short Term Over Long Term Travel

I have watched a few of them become disheartened by joining the rat race once more. But that isn’t me... I have, like most Brits, opted for the annual holiday to feed my travel thrist.
