Re: Tips to help with packing no matter where you are going

Mac ·
Very useful reminders Marilyn, thanks. Absolutely agree with "don't over-pack" (I still do and get cross with myself when I have unused items at the end of the trip. And yes, Kindles, packing cubes and ZipLoc bags have made great additions to my bag in recent years. Two other thoughts occur: 1) fast drying travel clothing (wash and wear overnight) helps lighten the load 2) don't pack every last item of shampoo, tea bags, snacks etc etc in the belief that you can't possibly buy x x x-thing in...

Re: Air Miles vs Low Fare Airline

The website states the limits for a carry-on bag are (approximately, stated in cm) 21 x 16 x 9 inches, and 10 kilos/22 pounds. Plus a "small" item that fits comfortably under the seat. Were your bags within these guidelines, Rob?

I had never experienced problems with books in my rucksack, but last week at Athens airport I had to empty it completely because the books (at the bottom!) apparently had been at the 'wrong' angle for the x-ray machine.

Re: No place like home? 41% of Americans stayed there!

DrFumblefinger ·
I think a lot of it is due to a bad economy. Many many working people out there are struggling and don't have spare funds to take a family on a trip. Travel for 4 people is often 3-4 x as expensive as travel for one person. And as PM points out, it's also a matter of priorities. To some folks vacation means going in style, like staying at an all inclusive luxury resort, not just camping. I'm actually curious if the 40% who said they didn't actually take vacation would even consider going...

Re: How to Fly through Airports…or at least relax a bit!

Paul Heymont ·
The cords and chargers can stay in the bag; they have a recognizable x-ray profile. That's generally true also for phones and small tablets, such as Kindle. Larger tablets, such as iPads, are invited out of your bag only once in a great while, but be sure to keep them accessible for those moments.
