That is all part of Thanksgiving. Bad weather and lots of delays for Thanksgiving Eve are a long standing holiday tradition. Somehow, the flight delays always seem to happen on the way to grandma's house on Wednesday, not on the return trip on Sunday to go back to work.

Whether landowners are in favor or not, public access to footpaths and other rights-of-way are protected by law in the UK in perpetuity. Any landowner who tries to fence them off or otherwise deny access will soon find an angry mob of activists helping them correct their "mistake". http://www.environmentlaw.org.uk/rte.asp?id=207 Lovely photo!

As you can see from this photo - the tow path makes an excellent route for cycling too. And walkers. No traffic or roads to cross. Friends often take their canoes for a paddle. Others just go fishing. Maybe just a walk in silence - except for the occasional canalside pub where they have a kids playground. And the ducks quacking. (No shooting allowed)

Thank you for this. Poland really is wonderful and the people are some of the most generous in the world. I spent some time there in the 1980's, and at that time a tourist, could live on a dollar a day, although the government forced tourists to exchange more. Even though it was so cheap for me, my Polish friends insisted on paying and life there for them was expensive.

Great post and photos and a nice introduction to the Baltic region. I look forward to your second post next week on Latvia! I'm coincidentally in Krakow today, and there is a familiarity to the architecture here in this city with what's in your images. Having a nice time. They Polish people are very kind and the country certainly is a travel bargain.

I love the Asti wines, and really enjoyed the Chianti wines, but I've forgotten the names of any specific wines I enjoyed in Italy I'm afraid. I do recommend the South African Durbanville Hills Chardonnay

I really love Krakow. Those colourful streets, little squares, amazing castle... Once while backpacking (it was supposed to be walking holidays in Lithuania ) I crossed Krakow and decided to stay there for all that time (10 days), I just went for hiking around, went to Warsaw and understood that Poland is the most amazing place in Europe! Everyone should visit it at least once!

To see the most remote and probably the most beautiful parts of NI you need to have a car. It's best to rent locally as a Ferry from Britain, and return, is quite expensive. If you just want a "Flying visit" to Belfast or Dublin you can catch a plane from Liverpool to either city for a bargain. Maybe stay a few nights in Ireland.
