Oh the wonderful childhood memories this article and photos brought back! The photos are excellent and really show what a fair is all about: fun, family and farm!!

My head is still spinning from the rides, and the wonderful quality of the pictures only helped to create the impression of being there...I'd much rather spend my time with the also-beautiful cows...

We haven't been to a real fair since our kids were young (we used to like the North Adams fair in Massachusetts and Orange County in NY...but you've just put a big state fair (somewhere) on my list. Iowa, maybe?

I don't know if I would go to the Iowa Fair, but if you go to the Wisconsin, you can combine it with a trip to Milwaukee

Thanks for a great piece! I am fascinated by farm life and the talented and hard working people who do it. I too have heard that small farms are dying out and there are probably statistics to prove it .Over the past year though, I've met quite a few small farmers that have innovative ideas that are doing good business. And I've seen some communities that really support local farmers markets. So if it's a passion for these young farmers, I hope they use their talents.

Stokesley is a market town in rural North Yorkshire with a well established agricultural past and community. The origins of the annual fair stretch back to 1223, when Henry III granted Stokesley, a charter to hold an annual fair.
