From his shoebox, Mac pulls another incredible image of Tallinn

I've been wondering about these arches, Mac. Were the purely aesthetic, or is there some function to them that you could discern?

I think the arches were actually functional, probably bracing the wall of the building on the right against the thicker fortress wall on the left. The tiled tops must be to protect the arch against the effects of the weather eroding the arches. Unusual, in any event.

Still more from my shoe-box of pictorial memories of the lovely medieval city Tallinn in Estonia, on the shores of the Baltic sea, is this rather splendid rain water gutter down-spout in the form of an old boot.

Our final Baltic destination was Tallinn, the capital of Estonia. We spent the week wandering around the old town, admiring the medieval architecture, haggling with vendors at the Russian market, wading in the cool clear waters of the Baltic.
