Re: How loooong does it take to get to your airport?
Taking a bus from Honolulu is quicker than taking the freeway? Even with bad traffic (which the buses would also get trapped in) I find this hard to believe. I agree with Jen. Depends on where you live. Many of us would welcome reliable fast public transportation serving our airports. The cab lobby has effectively prevented that in many cities.

Re: New York Taxis Debut App to Compete with Uber
Anything that pushes back at Uber is generally fine with me, but there are a few side issues here...starting with the "aging taxi fleet," which is actually newer than it's been in many years. The NV2000 boondoggle (and that's what it is) started with the previous mayor, Bloomberg, who decided that all owners should be forced to use the same cab..and then chose the NV2000, which does not, and cannot, meet ADA standards. For it to be wheelchair accessible requires an aftermarket conversion...

Re: Chip Credit Cards to Change the Way US Tips at Restaurants
Note that the tip suggestions on the machines have a habit of creeping up. New York cab tips were about 15% for years, as a standard, and as recently as 2 years ago, a Times survey found that was about the norm. But...when you pay by credit card, the machine offers a choice of 20%, 25% or 30%. To use 15%, you have to go back one step in the process, make a manual entry, and then back to the close-out screen...all while you're trying to get out of the cab and stop holding up traffic. I'll bet...

Re: Paris to set flat-rate airport cab fares
I like these set taxi prices because there are so many dishonest cabbies in the world. I don't mind taking train or bus if I'm not to tired, but sometimes at the end of a long journey I like to splurge on a cab to get us directly to our hotel. Much more pleasant that way and to me often worth the extra few Euros.

Here’s How Uber Customers are charged extra money that goes into the company’s pocket
The company has recently introduced ‘Upfront fares’ after suspending ‘Surge pricing’. Previously the app used to show the surge multiplier(something like 1.6x, 2.2x which means the customer has to pay 1.6 times of the actual charge) for a trip the customer is about to book which in turn varies according to the demand of the taxis in that locality. This has led to the cause of many distressful customers to give up using the app immediately they see the surge sign. By introducing ‘Upfront...

Benefits of Self-Drive Cars on Rentals over Taxis & Cabs
With the rising awareness among average Indians, the demand for improved services is on the rise these days than in the past. Though the cab culture in India has undergone some changes in recent years, it is still quite a distance away from accepting the idea of self-driven cars. That said, the joys of self-driven cars far exceed the experience of sitting in a passenger...
