Re: In Egypt: An Unlikely Story
Super story ! I've lost count of the synchronicities that have played out in my own travelling life. Endless curiosity is one of the nicer burdens in life 😆😎

Re: In Egypt: An Unlikely Story
My guess would be that only about 0.00001% of travelers to Egypt would have a familiarity with that book, interesting though it seems. You may very well have been the first person ever who recognized Hamada from Mahoney's book. But a charming tale it is and one that turns a good trip into a memorable experience. I'm saddened to hear that your story has you returning to Luxor already. I've enjoyed your Nile journey.

Aswan is the business ! Well when you do, take a look for a family belonging a guy called Fikri on the outskirts of the Nubian village opposite and downstream. Another insight with good people !

Re: Road Trip, Day 4: Fort Mason, San Francisco
San Francisco such a beautiful city. I've never been to Fort Mason next time might have to check it out. $45 per night not too bad of a deal considering it is an expensive city to be in.

But the Sea Lions waving their fins to catch some sunlight make it all worthwhile. Yes - I know - the kids love it - but watching who gets pushed off the floating boards to make room for the big fella is absolute poetry. Then he in turn pushes another Sea Lion off. Fine explanation of the "pecking order" Looks like a great location to spend the day - and pedestrian friendly...

It's a much smaller Fisherman's Wharf than San Franciscos, and one I like a lot better. Also, crowds are much lighter and the atmosphere a little more relaxed.
