Re: Boston in the fall - suggestions please!

Mac ·
Thank you Dr. F. - wise words we will keep 1-2 hotels booked ahead and be flexible beyond that. We are really looking forward to this new 'slice' of America, I never realised that the Pilgrim fathers just named every new town after their old home towns - I'm going to be quite confused!! Thanks too Garry that looks lovely! I envy you being there ahead of us!! PS we are now on the verge of booking Cuba too and are horrified at the cost that Virgin Atlantic is trying to screw us for an upgrade...

Take a look here for some ideas. Most have All-Inclusive packages. But that doesn't stop me going off exploring on the bus and getting a B+B overnight ! You're not glued to the hotel. Plus you don't want to be on the go EVERY day. Relax and take in the countryside. https://www.thomascook.com/holidays/caribbean/cuba/

Re: Neighborhoods in Santiago de Cuba

I'm not familiar with Santiago de Cuba. Casa particulares will provide you with meals and drinks. Stores and Restaurants are hard to find and most food is still rationed to the Cubans. Cuban water is safe for the locals but carries a high mineral content, which may cause gastro problems. Bottled "Montero" water is available and low cost. Quite nice too. Santiago de Cuba is not on the tourist lists for us Brits. Most Cuban food uses - Rice -Beans - Eggs - Chicken - Pork (No Beef) - Fish...

Re: Visiting great places -- before they're gone

GarryRF ·
When I first visited Cuba back in the 90's it was a different Country to the one today. No TV's - Radio - Phones and many had no electric ! The Cuban Government asked visitors not to show the locals photos of our 3 cars - 2 houses and 14 acres of land by the beach. And how we had a Colour TV in every room. It upsets them. Not surprising really - and quite cruel ! Now its Air Con and fast catching up with the World ! The people are now free to leave and travel. They watch American Satellite...

Don't think I've ever seen an RV in Cuba ! I've seen plantains cooked a hundred different ways.

Neighborhoods in Santiago de Cuba

Paul Heymont ·
I'm looking for advice for a stay in Santiago de Cuba in January. I'm primarily interested in casas particulares, and would appreciate suggestions of what parts of Santiago might be best to look in. We'd prefer an area which is reasonably quiet but...

10 Water Sports and Their Top 5 Spots

John Peter ·
This human-made chaos is everything we want to survive this time and everything we get frustrated with. We as a mortal being are keen to watch movies in which robots are flying and changing the world or meta-humans are saving the planet earth. It indicates our want for something drastic to happen in this world, but what we are not willing to do is to leave our couch and drag ourselves out from the house to make our own life better or to save our own-self. I have always found water to be a...

i know there are plenty of longish train journeys but does anybody know if there are any short (2hours max each way) return hops from Havana, Santiago or Trinidad?

Hi Everybody! I'm new here.

Theodore Behr ·
Just found this site via Facebook.  Some good stuff here, especially the blogs about cell phones.  I also like the Cuba photos, but can't get to Cuba until they lift the embargo. I live in SoCal, so if anyone has any questions about...

Hidden wallet/money belt?

Paul Heymont ·
This is something I've always avoided. I keep my money...never too much...deep in my pants pocket, not in a wallet; my cards and passport are elsewhere.   However, everywhere I turn, I see recommendations to use a money belt or hidden wallet in...
