Re: Best and Worst U.S. airports: No surprises
I believe Airports should be judged solely on whether you had a pleasant experience. There is no way Orlando isn't in the Top10. New York is a disgrace. But I pass through as an alien - US residents see no problem. Philadelphia is a dream. Excellent Airport.

Re: Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart
I know the implications of using a scantily clad "Bimbo" to sell cars ! But its also a reminder of the "Fairer Sex" who'll be waiting when I get home to share my moment of madness in signing on the Dotted Line. A Car is a Car. I can dream. Don't spoil it with trivia !

Re: Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart
GarryRF, by bimbo selling a car, I presume you mean the guy in the blue t-shirt above, right? The ones in the bottom photo are just mannequins in frilly color coordinated wraps. And a man can dream. No question that the Mercedes product is a top-notch one.

Re: Showdown in Florence: Contemporary Artists vs Michelangelo
I don't know how these contemporary artists feel, but it's a tall order to be compared to Michelangelo. I think I'd rather take on the original Dream Team in basketball in their prime then what these artists up against.

Re: October 26, 2017: A Tribute to Tom Petty (1950 - 2017)
A great tribute! I've always liked the songs of Tom Petty but I listened to them differently when I lived in Gainesville, Fl, his home town. Although a cute town with the thriving University of Florida, part of the town feels like they got left out of that success and dream of escaping to places of more opportunity. In his case he used his talents to escape his father. The city is rightfully proud he was able to make it big in California.

Re: Beating Jet Lag
You're quite right DrF ! Usually when I return on a long flight the cabin is like a Doctors waiting room. Coughing and sneezing and spluttering. Headache. But the Dreamliner was - a dream ! So much healthier and with the windows darkened 'til just before breakfast - most people slept well - even the babies on board

Re: Is Visa everywhere you want to be?
Very good advice, Rob...and also check with the card-issuer what fees it charges for overseas use...some of them not only charge foreign-exchange fees, but also hefty ATM fees! One idea that may make sense for many travelers: Charles Schwab has a "high-yield investment" checking account that seems almost like a dream. No fees, no minimum balance, no foreign exchange fees, no ATM fees, and if anyone charges you an ATM fee, they refund it. It's linked to an investment account, but you don't...

Re: Gumbo's Pic of the Day, May 23, 2015: First Class, Nanning Train Station
I wouldn't dream of occupying while stabling in the train rest room, but in the waiting room? I thought that's what they were for. A wise man, or FaMale, should know better than to leave a nice comfortable clean place and get on a train in some parts of the world. It was a lesson it took me several trains to learn on that trip.

Re: How do you buy your travel?
There's been no mention, that I noticed, of consolidators for multi-segment air travel. I've had great success over the years using Airtreks and now, after a number of bookings, have a "relationship" with an agent there. The only job of a consolidator is to find their clients the cheapest fares point to point and string them together to make a unique personalized trip. They use airlines with which they have contracts for the lowest fares so, short of a spectacular sale, will, as far as I can...

Re: Portland, Oregon - Part III - Escaping
Thanks again for a wonderful view of the Portland area. If you had continued East along the Columbia River you would have reached the Maryhill Museum . This fascinating collection of art started as the dream of Samuel Hill who was president of the Seattle Gas and Electric Company around the start of the 20th century. He hoped to build a Quaker farming community, but irrigation proved too difficult. Istead he was convinced to turn his mansion into an art museum. His collection was eclectic. I...

Re: The Architecture of Old Sana'a, Yemen
Lucky you! Yemen is high on my wish list but I may have missed my chance on this one. I sailed past not long ago but not the same, by a long shot, as my dream of staying in one of those beautiful buildings in Sana'a. For those wanting to get a feel for the city, there's an excellent documentary about English writer, Tim Mackintosh-Smith, who has lived in Sana'a for years, ' The English Sheik and the Yemeni Gentleman'. Also, 'New Day in Old Sana'a', by a Yemeni director. Both available on ...
