Re: The Legend of Vlad the Impaler (Dracula)

DrFumblefinger ·
Thank you so very much for this fascinating piece on Dracula!! I grew up scared of vampires as a small boy because I''d watched Bela Lugosi when I was a little to young to understand. But at least I knew I was safe in the day, as vampires could not come into the sunlight. Amazing what an industry Vampires have become, with hundreds of movies, television series and books written about them. You've give us yet another reason to visit Romania. The country moves further and further up my list of...

Rebecca Brown ·
Dreaming of distant oceans, white, sandy beaches, a Mojito in your hand, while a gentle breeze is just ruffling the waters lounging a few feet from your feet? Northeast England

Paul Heymont ·
Inspired in part by pictures here by Ian Cook, Paul Hunter and Beverley McBean, and in part by several detective series by Ann Cleeves, I've inserted a few days in the Northeast next year on the way to Edinburgh. I know I can't see it all, or even most, and would love suggestions for worthwhile sights, museums and places, more urban than rural but not exclusively so. In advance, thanks!

And sailing with your kids is one of the best things you can ever do. It provides treasured memories that they will forever cherish. You not only get a chance of repairing burned bridges, but you...

Yesterday & Today in France.

PortMoresby ·
Jeff Steiner, an American living in France, has a monthly newsletter in which, from time to time, he has a photo feature called Yesterday & Today in which old photos are merged with new ones of the same place and vantage point to create what to me feels a bit like time travel. I don't find one link to them so I'll give you the individual links. I especially like the first one with a group coming up a hill. They seem to be emerging from the past and looking directly at...

Has anyone used their Enhanced Drivers License to travel to Canada or Mexico?

Travel Rob ·
I'll include the info below from the DHS website on traveling with an Enhanced Drivers License (EDL) under certain conditions. Has anyone done this and does Mexico and Canada accept those for EDL's for entry easily? I like avoiding taking a passport, if I can, because I wrinkle the pages easily and worry about moisture. So far I haven't gotten the passport card, but I would get the EDL when it becomes available in a state I'm living in. Thanks! According to the DHS website: "State-issued...
