I'm curious to know if the talented artists who painted these walls and ceilings are documented anywhere. When I see such great works such as those on the abandoned and still occupied havelis of Shekhawati as well as those captured in your interesting photos, I can't help but wonder if their names are known. We hear about the rulers and rich merchants who owned many of these great edifices, but I'm equally curious about the architects and artisans.

I could not agree more with you. The guidebooks always tell you that King XYZ built a castle/palace/temple, but, of course, THEY didn't - it was an army of workers, architects, and artisans who did. As to Orchha, I reckon that at least some of the names are known, but I'm afraid I don't have the information.
