Re: A Fall Visit to Krakow's Hala Targowa Market
Hey, I love apples and the ones on this post look amazing. I recently did a post on the Oak Glen Apple Harvest in California. Have you ever been? I haven't, but have had friends bring me back some. They were wonderful. Glad you had a nice time at the market. Thanks for sharing.

Re: A Fall Visit to Krakow's Hala Targowa Market
Hi Samantha! The apples were a highlight of the market and we enjoyed them! Very sweet and juicy. I've heard of the Oak Glen Apple festival but never visited it. I regret I didn't. But I lived in Washington state for 8 years and as you know, apples are a big deal. There are a number of harvest festivals in that state featuring apples.

Re: A visit to the Jack Daniel's distillery: Lynchburg, Tennessee
Indeed I did, PortMoresby! I'm not much of a hard liquor guy, but love the smoky smell of No. 7. Reminds me of the mellowing room at the distillery! And the golden color from those customized oak barrels is beautiful!

Re: A visit to the Jack Daniel's distillery: Lynchburg, Tennessee
Thanks for the comment, PHeymont! I was surprised at what a quality craft the making of Jack Daniels is. The fine attention to all details -- form harvesting their own trees and making their own charcoal, to having their own oak barrels made from wood harvested near by -- key elements to producing a unique product. It was quite fascinating to me.

Planning For A Memorable USA Trip? Get These Cities In Your Bucket List First
Right from the food-loving New Orleans to the artsy Asheville, there are so many cities in the USA all ready to just blow your minds apart. Just on the surface, the NYC skyscrapers might not feel more different from the sun-washed buildings of Santa Fe. Similarly, the crystal clear beaches of Honolulu might seem to be just different from the oak shaped ones of Savannah. But despite these differences, American cities share the same old spirit of being lively all the time. Just the right...

Re: Where in the World is TravelGumbo (#79)
I may be wrong, but that could be my neck of the woods--New Orleans. Maybe even the Garden District with that oak tree. But the house has New England colors of white clapboard and black shutters, which would allow it to fit in on Nantucket or Concord, MA. Whose car is next to the house? Not Louisiana plates, but that could be a decoy. I' d guess the South. Hollywood would use this house, if it were in New Orleans, to look like somewhere else.

Re: National Park Service fees going way up
"...free park days on a monthly basis -- much like some of the British museums..." Though free days might help level the field, I'm not sure this example applies as most major museums in London are free, every day. The Brits seem to have a better handle on use of public funds as it applies to national treasues, as did the US several decades past. Regarding entrance fees to historic sites of all kinds in the UK, many who love visiting such places buy annual memberships to, for instance, the...

Re: The Famous River Walk in San Antonio, Texas
Garry, I'm assuming by your statement of "That's the last thing I would have expected in Texas", that you might imagine Texas like many of non-Texans do; lots of dry, dusty desert all over. In reality, Texas has a really varied landscape, that includes swampland, rolling hills, pine and oak forests, grasslands and plains, mountains, lakes, canyons, rivers, and yes, dry, dusty desert. One particular area of Texas just northwest of San Antonio that is always popular is the Texas Hill Country.
