Re: Idaho's Craters of the Moon National Monument
Thanks for reading the piece and for your comment, GarryRF! The "Yellowstone" hot spot has migrated over the past thousands of years from eastern Oregon, across southern Idaho and now sits right under Yellowstone National Park. Actually the hot spot hasn't move at all, the earth's places move away from the hot spot, but it's just another way of thinking about it. I'd be careful about being around an active volcano but don't mind hanging around places like this or much of the Hawaiian...

Re: Lower Fort Garry National Historic Site, Manitoba, Canada. One of the buildings inside the fort complex
Not sure, and not sure. We're on a working roadtrip in our 30 foot RV. Been in California for a month for work and will do another 4 weeks in Silicon Valley. Then we'll leisurely make our way back home to Toronto visa Washington, Oregon, and into Canada. So we don't set days or time limits on our travels - just to make meetings and the like!

Re: Gumbo's Pic of the Day, April 12, 2014: Mokelumne Hill, California
My gg grandfather was a 49er, headed west with his brother and cousin, then returned by ship, Panama and Cuba, to Missouri where they farmed and eventually supplied the army at Ft. Bridger in Wyoming as well as working as guides on the Oregon Trail. It was the next generation, my grandparents and g.grandparents that settled for good in California. So the stories of The West have always been the lore of our family. More places in the coming weeks.

I spotted this beautiful sunset right off my front porch. I thought to myself, I had to capture this Oregon sunset. It was the first I've seen like it as usually the climate here is too foggy to appreciate the beautiful scenery.

Airline change your flight? Check your options!
I book many of my trips way in advance, so I'm used to getting e-mails that a flight has been moved up 10 minutes, or pushed forward half an hour—no biggie. But today I got one from American Airlines, changing an itinerary to Portland, Oregon to start 5 hours later and arrive nearly 3 hours later, too late to check in to my B&B. Problem's been solved; I called AA and they moved me a couple of hours earlier than the original. What I learned in the process, however, is that when a flight...
