Re: And the tallest US building goes to?
The judges have chosen the "fairest in the land". I would be happy to tour both buildings. The ingenuity of architects and engineers never ceases to impress me. Some buildings that I have particularly enjoyed touring - the World Trade Center and the Rockefeller Center in NY, the dome of St. Peter's in Rome, all of St. Paul's in London, the Reichstag in Berlin and all of the small historical buildings at Greenfield Village, Michigan.

Re: Where in the World is Gumbo? #25
Well, this one's been cracked: PortMoresby went a bit west of Chicago and found the Michigan Avenue Bridge in Milwaukee: "After not paying any attention after I looked briefly this morning, I saw that he'd posted the clue, smaller city. I asked Google for pictures of "vertical lift bridges" and almost immediately saw a tiny picture of the blue glass building. I couldn't see any detail except the color and shape of the piers and it was from the other direction." Congratulations: and...

Re: Spain: a campaign for quiet dining
This is a big problem in the Caribbean too. You book a table in a fine restaurant. Candles on each table. Napkins and best silver cutlery. And the gentle tones of a Spanish Guitar soloist provide the entertainment. Then 2 families sitting at tables 15 feet apart discover they both come from Michigan. They have to shout to each other to be heard above the music. The soloist takes a break. The conversation continues and the noise level stays the same.

Re: Welcome to Ohio!
Toledo in Ohio is an interesting story. If I recall a program I once saw on how state lines were determined, Toledo was in Michigan territory but that was contested by Ohio. After a bloodless skirmish between the two, a deal was struck where Ohio got Toledo and Michigan was given most of the Upper Peninsula (The Mitten). Who got the best deal?
