Gumbo’s Pic of the Day, July 2, 2015: Indian Ocean Sunset

There are places in the world where people stop what they’re doing to enjoy the setting of the sun.  Usually these are tropical countries, where tourists sip tall cool drinks beside a pool as they watch this evidence of the earth’s rotation.

I’ve never enjoyed more leisurely or beautiful sunsets in my life than at the Galle Face Hotel in Columbo.  Some nights it was just an average sunset but other nights it was truly spectacular, as you can see above.

Drinks and a Sunset at Galle Face Hotel

Invariably, unless it was raining, a large group of travelers gathered in the Galle Face’s courtyard, facing the Indian Ocean, and enjoyed the view.  I need to go back soon for one or two more sunsets….
