Amongst the most magnificent sights in Bangkok is the Wat Phra Kaew temple, or the Temple of the Jade Buddha. It is a riot of gilded and colorful figures in a very concentrated area within the grounds of the King’s Grand Palace in Bangkok.
I’m a huge fan of colonial ambiance. I speak of an esthetic and not the politics of colonialism. I love the way buildings look that were built by Europeans in their colonies.
This building, modeled down to the finest detail on a Scottish Baronial home, was completed in 1888 to serve as the Viceregal Lodge from where the whole of the enormous British Imperial Indian subcontinent was ruled during the summer months each year.

Probably the prettiest small medieval town I’ve ever seen is Cesky Krumlov, a 2.5 hour drive southwest from Prague. It seems little changed these past 500 years and fortunately was not damaged by bombing in the Great Wars.
