This is the garden at Haddon Hall, in Derbyshire, England, my favorite house of the many dozens I’ve visited. From our perspective, it benefits greatly from the fact that the house was largely ignored over the centuries by the owner.
Haddon Hall is my favorite among the scores of historic houses I’ve visited in England. It was saved from the destructive fate of so many houses, updating, by the benign neglect of its owners.
