DrFumblefinger visits the high altitude city of Nuwara Eliya. The town has a cool climate and is a center of vegetable and tea production. It also is proud of those relics of British Colonial rule that linger in the city.
We visit the Grand Hotel in Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka. Situated in the heart of the tea growing region of the country, the cooler climate of the region was popular with the English who lived here during the 19th century. The Grand Hotel itself is a beautiful relic of the period of British Colonial rule on the island.
A visit to the historic Victorian era post office in Sri Lanka’s mountain town of Nuwara Eliya, also known as “Little England.”
The coastal regions of Sri Lanka are fairly flat. Given that and the relatively small size of the island, I was surprised to find impressive peaks (over 2500 m high) at its center. This is where the country’s tea is grown.
