The castle overlooks the town from a commanding position at the top of a steep hill. It was originally built by the Genoese in the 14th century (probably over the foundations of an ancient acropolis) and was later added to by the Ottomans.

This impressive monastery is perched on the very top of a cone-shaped mountain near Antissa. Its museum contains various interesting collections.
