Canada’s big little discount airline has its 20th birthday today—or maybe its 5th, since it started service on Leap Day 1996.
Westjet announced trans-Atlantic service a few months ago, and now it’s making two of its new routes to London year-round.
Canadian airline, Westjet, has made some clever YouTube clips over the years, some of which we’ve featured on TravelGumbo. This might be one of their better efforts. It’s rare to see, at least in my opinion, such an effective combination of charity, Christmas cheer, and letting folks know exactly where your company flies (ie. good self-promotion). WestJet announced today that it will start charging for a check on bag on flights to Europe starting January 6th. They also will increase some reserved seating depending on distance flown.

Two of Canada’s airlines are spreading out to new destinations. WestJet, a large budget carrier, has added Boeing 767s that allow it to make a big splash in the trans-Atlantic trade, and Porter, a much smaller carrier, will add flights from Toronto to its first Florida destination, Melbourne, near Orlando.
