So just found out today that I gotta go to Minneapolis for almost two weeks in February.  Being from SoCal, this doesn't sound like that much fun to me.  I've got winter clothing and I'll mostly be busy with work, but should have a few hours of half day here and there to see and do stuff.

Question is, is there stuff to do there that I can do without freezing my tail off.   I've heard about the Mall of America.  Is it easy to get there from downtown?  Worth going to?  Any great museum or sights?  Oh, I won't have a car.  Just bus or cabs to get around, I guess.  Our hotel is downtown.

I'll get a AAA guide before I go but was wondering if any of you know Minneapolis and have some suggestions on what to see

The Mall's more interesting than you might think - besides the shopping there are the restaurants, amusement venues, and events going on.  Here some info about stuff to see at the Mall  http://www.mallofamerica.com/attractions

To get to the Mall of America you  Take Metro Transit (easy and clean)

From Minneapolis

Hiawatha Light Rail (Route 55) - The Hiawatha light-rail line offers fast, frequent service from downtown (5th Street) to Mall of America. Hiawatha light-rail trains leave every 7.5 minutes during rush hours, every 10-15 minutes at other times. Travel time from end to end is 39 minutes. View schedules and routes

From the airport (reverse to go to the airport if you leave from the Mall).

Hiawatha Line (Route 55) - The Hiawatha light-rail line offers fast, frequent service from the airport's Lindbergh and Humphrey terminals to Mall of America. Hiawatha light-rail trains leave every 7.5 minutes during rush hours, every 10-15 minutes at other times. Travel time is 12 minutes. View schedules and routes

You would not be disappointed in a visit to the Minneapolis Institute of Arts.  They have free admission to a giant collection over all periods and styles.  The Mill City Museum displays the flour milling history of the city.   The American Swedish Museum is really neat - all about the unique Swedish heritage of that area.   Ja, sure, you betcha.  have fun

Hi Theodore!  I am a Mall of America fan.  You can easily spend an entire weekend (or many evenings) at the Mall of America.  First of all, the mall is very easy to get to by train from downtown (CICAK did a wonderful job explaining that), and fares are quite cheap (fares go for about $1.75 to $2.25 one way depending on what time of day you ride).  As CICAK also mentioned, there is something for everybody at the mall.  If you just want to find a warm dry place to walk and people watch, I believe a stroll around an entire floor of the mall is approximately one mile, and there are three floors to cover if you are so inclined.  You'll love the wide variety of restaurants to choose from.  Activities include (to just name a few) a mini-golf course, a mirror maze, Nickleodeon Universe, a large amusement park which occupies the entire open centre area of the Mall of America and offers a range of very cool rides (this is a favorite of mine), a large movie theatre complex, and Sea Life Minnesota Aquarium where you will see sharks, manta rays, jellyfish, octopi, etc...I was amazed at how good this aquarium was.  I hope this information helps you.  Have a great trip to Minneapolis, and stay warm.

Thanks for all the info, guys!  That helps.

I think if it's really cold out, I'll just go to that big mall and hang for awhile.  Especially with the metro going there from near where I'm staying.

I do like to see movies (hey, its my job, but I love it!) and that aquarium sounds like fun.

I'm less of a museum guy, Chatterbox2, but if they have some of those blonde Scandanavian ladies working there I just might need to become one!
